PATools Support - Running the software
This whole section is based upon our Excel Add-Ins
software such as the Mail Merge and Label Merge software tools; the process
is similar for the other software we offer - simply follow the instructions
given for those. Each product runs differently, and is generally fairly self-explanatory,
though the sample files and help files provided should help get you up and
running quickly and easily. However, if it helps, there is a short video file
below of the Label Merge product.
Watch a
video clip example (1003k) - this exe file has been
created by
Camtasia Studio software® and is a
complete video file that you can watch, pause, etc without the need for any
other media player software. Simply click the underlined link and choose Run
(or save a copy and then run it), and permit it to run if you get any
further security warnings.
Trouble-shooting
The first port of call should always be the help file which you can access from
the drop-down at the bottom-right of the main screen:

If this does not help you, you cannot find the answer below and trial-and-error does not solve it either, then
please feel free to contact us.
Known problems that can appear when running our software
- Nothing happens when I click the PATools menu item in Excel.
Solution: From time to time some unknown bug in Excel or Windows (as far as
we can detect) causes add-ins to become de-registered. To fix this simply go
to Tools | Add-ins and ensure that our software is checked in the list. It
should then work ok.
Product specific issues
In some cases the software may report that a field exists in the
main document which does not have a header in the source data. To the
user they may appear both to be there. If this happens, first check that
you do not include the brackets (<< >>) in the source data header.
Secondly check the formatting of the header cell - it may need setting
to General format under Numeric, or alternatively you can change the
PATools Mail Merge software option from Text to Values. Thirdly check
that the headers in your source data to not have rogue space characters
on the end eg <<Description>> may have a source header of "Description "
(without the quotes).
