PATools Support - Installing

On this page: Troubleshooting

You can get a copy of our software from our website at any time.

Simply find the relevant product page from our home page and find the section headed 'Download' and follow the simple instructions.

Users who have downloaded and installed in the past using our Installation Workbook method will find this has now changed to a zip file. This was due to issues arising from Windows Vista. In fact all the workbook used to do was to automate what you now have to do, but we feel this is hardly any more onerous now! If you have previously installed using the workbook you can uninstall if you wish but you can simply unzip over the top of the previous version if you prefer.

Follow the instructions on the product page for installing.

For most add-ins, at the end, new PATools menu item(s) will appear from which you can run this software.

This will install the software on an evaluation basis which means that you can use it for as long as you wish but there will be some restriction on how much you can use it (see each product page for the specific restrictions on each particular product).

Trouble-shooting

1. Users will need to open a zip file - the latest versions of Microsoft Windows will do this automatically, but if your system cannot do this there are a number of excellent paid and free products available on the web - just search for 'Zip programs' in your internet search engine.

2. 'I have no menu item for PATools'

Occasionally you may lose the PATools menu items, for example if Excel crashes.

To resolve this, first check under Tools | Add-Ins (on your keyboard press and release Alt, then T and then I.) to see whether the PATools add-in is checked.

If not, you should install the software from scratch.

If it is checked, then you need to do the following:

  1. Uncheck the item in Tools | Add-Ins
  2. Check that Tools | Macro | Security is set to Medium (or Low)
  3. Close and re-open Excel
  4. Go to Tools | Add-Ins - check the item again, and the PATools menu item should appear again
  5. Immediately close Excel and re-open it (to make sure your new menu is saved)
